DATE : 30th December 2006

Distance 26 miles - 3 Peaks

A tough winter walk from Horton in Ribblesdale covering the 26m circular of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, Ingleborough. Led by Ralph Warman. 14 walkers completed the walk with one dropping out at the bottom of Whernside. Conditions were tough with very strong winds all day and driving rain fom midday onwards. The rain had turned to snow by the time we had got to the top of Ingleborough but thankfully it was still daylight and the descent to Horton was relatively easy, although tiring.

17 walkers started out on a very tough days walking in cold, wet and misty conditions. 3 drop-outs and we did not finish until 18:30 after struggling off Ingleborough in the dark.

26 walkers started out with 3 leaving us at Malham on yet another damp, drizzly day in the Dales. This was probably the biggest turnout in recent years

11 walkers including another 3 new to the group had another good days walking but conditions were not good, especially early on over the 2 big climbs. It was cloudy most of the day and misty higher up. Lucklily no rain fell.

19 walkers including 3 new to the group had a good days walking in poor conditions (especially for mid-August). Very overcast conditions and some heavy rain showers spoilt the views somewhat but all seemed to enjoy the 24-25 mile walk.

7 walkers ( 5 from Leeds, 1 from York and 1 from Thornaby) had a fine days walking in excellent conditions. Highpoint of the day was seeing fantastic views over the Washburn valley with 5 Red Kites soaring overhead, one only 40 foot away
