Welcome to the West Yorkshire Group of the Long Distance Walkers Association
Introducing The West Yorkshire Group
The Group was founded in 1977 and has since emerged to be one of the most
successful of local groups, even producing it's own distinctive badge. The Group
programme contains a variety of walks to cater for the walker who enjoys long
and ultra-long distance walking.The Group's full programme of walks and activities
are published in each edition of 'Strider'. We are well situated with good access
to a variety of walking areas, including the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire
Moors, the Peak District, the South Pennines and the Lake District, whilst the
industrial cities of Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield have a variety of local walking
areas literally on their doorstep. The programme often includes Open Challenge
Walks for which Badges and Certificates are usually available; also, occasionally,
such walks as the Dales way non-stop. All walks usually have a leader and the
distance / time given in 'Strider', to indicate the severity of the walk.

Group Meetings
Group meetings are held thrice yearly at the Commercial Inn (Top Ole) on Elland Road, Churwell Leeds
on the A643 unless otherwise stated in Strider Magazine
All walks are easy-paced. If this Group's reputation is preventing you from joining us, be assured you will be accomodated. The speed merchants left us years ago, unfortunately the stigma remains
